We were told 13 people for our booth when we put deposit down but then told 10 at the door. Delphine LaLaurie and Her Haunted Mansion in New Orleans

madame lalaurie house

An elderly enslaved woman started the fire to kill herself so she could escape LaLaurie's sadistic wrath. So disturbed were the townspeople of New Orleans that they formed a mob and pillaged the mansion. Blackpast reports that LaLaurie fled and most likely died in Paris, France, in 1849 without facing any repercussions for her horrific crimes. The mansion, however, still stands as a reminder of what LaLaurie's slaves endured. In the Sunday magazine section of the New Orleans Times-Picayune on February 4, 1934, much of this information was brought to light by Meigs Frost.

What is for certain is that she and her husband did own a number of men and women as property. Although some contemporaries say she never mistreated them in public, and in general was civil to African Americans, it seems as though Delphine had a dark secret. There were rumors that she kept her 70-year-old cook chained to the stove, starving.

LaLaurie and her slaves

madame lalaurie house

Marie Delphine MacCarthy Blanque LaLaurie purchased the property and constructed a three-story mansion in 1832. The house quickly gained a reputation as one of the grandest homes in the city’s French Quarter. Despite the Lalauries’ protests, local residents investigated the ruined mansion and uncovered horrifying evidence of the cruelty that had taken place inside. One of the first sights they came across was an elderly woman chained to the stove in the kitchen. She told the rescuers that she had been kept there for years, abused and starved.

Marie Delphine Macarty or MacCarthy was born on March 19, 1787, in New Orleans during the Spanish Colonial period. She was one of five children born to Louis Barthelemy de McCarty (originally Chevalier de MacCarthy) and Marie-Jeanne L’Érable, both of whom were prominent in the New Orleans’ European Creole community. It is considered the most haunted building in all of New Orleans.

Martineau's account, written in 1838, indicates that the enslaved people had been flayed, and wore spiked iron collars to prevent movement of the head. After this incident, an investigation took place, and charges of unusual cruelty leveled against Delphine. However, Delphine managed to use her family's connections to get them all back to Royal Street.

madame lalaurie house

The first season of AHS centered on the violent history and ghostly present of the Murder House, which was played by L.A.'s 113-year-old Rosenheim Mansion. The alleged cruelty eventually influenced the couple’s social standing. People declined dinner invitations, and Madame found herself alone more often as the whispers of terrible tortures intensified in town. The servants carried delicious food on delicate china to the grand table, and the dancing for the evening took place on plush, Oriental rugs.

But what is hard to deny is the multiple sources and eyewitness accounts of the cruel and inhumane conditions that the Lalauries kept their enslaved persons in. And it should be noted that she was never accused of mistreating her bondspeople until after she married Dr. Louis Lalaurie. Perhaps she began to take her unhappy marriage out on her servants. The forty-year-old Delphine was now on her third husband, and the twenty-five-year-old Dr. Lalaurie was a new father in a new country with a very wealthy wife. Lalaurie was an "older" woman at thirty-eight, with two dead husbands, five children, and considerable wealth. One could speculate a few scenarios around their blossoming relationship, but one thing we know for sure is that Madame Delphine became pregnant with Dr. Lalaurie's child out of wedlock.

Today, the handsome house at 1140 Royal Street looks as charming as ever. Though it looks lovely from the sidewalk, this house of horrors has a truly nightmarish history. According to local lore, there’s a reason that no one owned the house for very long.

After she was taken to court, a judge ruled in favor of McDaniel and other black homeowners on the grounds of the 14th Amendment. This amendment prohibits depriving individuals of life, freedom, and property without due process of law, and also prohibits the state from curtailing the privileges and protections of citizens. McDaniel identified as a bisexual woman and was married four times. In 1941, she moved into the Sugar Hill neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Missions and Ranchos are a special designation of historic homes that have such a unique position in telling the history of southern California that they deserve a separate page.

But within the first sight of the LaLaurie Mansion, the medium sucked in a deep breath. "Such sadness," she whispered as she rocked back on her heels. Pulling out her phone, she proceeded to snap a picture of the mansion.

In New Orleans itself, much of Madame Lalaurie’s behavior had been overlooked for years. But once the whisperings of her cruel treatment gave way to the reality revealed by the fire, residents were quick to condemn her actions. This was made clear by their destruction of the Lalaurie mansion itself. Abolitionist newspapers printed lurid descriptions of Madame Lalaurie’s sadism.

Seven slaves were rescued from deplorable conditions, "their bodies covered with scars and loaded with chains." They were taken out on stretchers and delivered to safety at the Cabildo. While a mob proceeded to destroy the furnishings of the home in outrage. The debt that Blanque left behind could have depleted Lalaurie's wealth. Delphine had the luck of the Irish, though it came in the form of morbid and macabre luck. Her father, Chevalier Louis Barthélémy de Macarty, passed away in 1824, leaving his children with a substantial inheritance. His daughter, with a free woman of color, was included in his will, he left her "$5,000 and two slaves."

Negligence and abuse of slaves were common in the antebellum South. But as the Lalaurie mansion burned to the ground, the true extent of Madame Lalaurie’s cruelty would soon send shockwaves through the city of New Orleans. Bryant wrote that he set sail for France out of New York on June 24, 1834. Madame Delphine Lalaurie did have one loyal servant on her staff, this we know for sure. Amid the mayhem and flames, her enslaved coachman brought her carriage around, and Delphine stepped into it with complete confidence. It is said that the angry citizens tried desperately to hold the horses and snatch her from the carriage.

Madame LaLaurie and Her New Orleans Mansion of Horrors

According to Vanity Fair, Cage bought the mansion to get inspiration to write a horror novel. The novel, however, was never written and Cage lost the home to foreclosure in 2009. He later told the New York Daily News that owning the LaLaurie mansion was a childhood dream come true. Currently, the Lalaurie Mansion is owned by a Texas energy trader who invites guests over when they visit New Orleans.

Does Delphine Lalaurie Haunt Her Mansion?

Had they postponed their voyage one month, as he requested, his wife's life could have been spared in a less grueling voyage. Though the house still stands on the corner of Royal Street, the whereabouts of Madame LaLaurie are still unknown. After the dust settled, the woman and her driver were missing, assumed to have fled to Paris.

Monster of the Month w/ Colin Dickey: Arctic Ghosts

According to one report, some of the slaves had been flayed with a whip while others had had their eyes gouged out. The first responders to come onto the scene pleaded with Madame Lalaurie to hand them the key to the slave quarters or to release the slaves herself, but she refused. She was busy loading her arms with as many goods as she could carry.

This symbolic piece of New Orleans architecture is also home to a few ghastly stories.

Why is it that people can be spotted standing around snapping photos of the building on any given night? The room smelled potently of death, and many vomited upon entering. Yet even more horrible than the dead slaves chained to the walls were those still alive — albeit barely. Maimed by medical experiments, some were still strapped to tables, some were huddled in small cages.

Public Tours

Madame LaLaurie paid for legal services and sold a number of enslaved people following the investigation. New Orleans’ history is filled with belles and beauties, but few as immortal as Madame LaLaurie. A three times married Louisiana socialite, LaLaurie (born Delphine Macarty) acquired her name that would be legendary from her final marriage to the physician Dr. Leonard Louis Nicolas LaLaurie. In 1831 the couple bought property at 1140 Royal Street under Delphine’s name, and less than a year later she had transformed the lot into a three-story mansion with attached quarters for their slaves. Celebrated for being gracious, captivating, and wildly beautiful, she was one of the best-known women in New Orleans society in her time.

Known for being a wealthy socialite, no one could have known that Madame LaLaurie was also a sadist and murderer. To the aristocratic Marie Delphine Lalaurie, her slaves were far from her most valuable items. By the time the concerned bystanders finally got hold of the keys and entered, what they found within was nothing short of gut-wrenching. He drove the escape route and delivered her to a schooner waiting at the docks of the New Orleans Navigation Company on Lake Pontchartrain, where she boarded and fled.

Hugh Heffner no longer owns the property, but there’s still no public access inside the building, so don’t expect to see too much besides the exterior if you decide to drop by. Though its skyline will never measure up to the likes of New York or Chicago, Los Angeles has carved out its own architectural identity. Look below the glassy skyscrapers and you'll find Art Deco high-rises in Downtown Los Angeles, craftsman bungalows in Pasadena and envious estates along the hills and beaches.

Only time will tell whether or not he can change the sinister reputation of this one-time house of horrors. Delphine and Louis eventually ended up in Paris with Delphine's children coming over for extended stays. Louis lived off of Delphine's wealth, but grew tired of her complaining and left her in Paris as he made his way to Havana. Shortly after, more of Delphine's family moved to Paris, where they all occupied homes in the 1st arrondissement. How much is accurate and which are embellishments, we'll never know.

After going inside LaLaurie Mansion, discover the true story behind the Amityville Horror house. Apparently, some of these ghosts — especially the woman, believed to be Madame LaLaurie herself — are violent. When the house was a school, young girls allegedly encountered a woman who would grab their arms, leaving scratches and bruises. Chris Granger/NOLA.comLaLaurie Mansion is today considered one of New Orleans’ most haunted houses.

Her children, save the one she had with Louis LaLaurie, all lived the rest of their days with their mother in Paris. But, the rumors continued, and finally, the reports were sufficiently widespread that a local lawyer was dispatched to Royal Street in 1832 to remind LaLaurie of the laws for the upkeep of slaves. However, during his visit, the lawyer found no evidence of wrongdoing or mistreatment by LaLaurie.

Rescuers found a 70-year-old black woman trapped in the kitchen during the fire because she was chained up while LaLaurie was busy saving her furniture. The woman later revealed that she had set the fire in an attempt to escape LaLaurie’s torture. She led authorities up to the attic, where seven slaves were tied with spiked iron collars. Though today’s building is not the very same one that LaLaurie lived in and cannot be toured, it is a highlight of many New Orleans ghost tours due to its tragic history and tales of being haunted. Although not everyone believes in psychics or mediums, there was one particular instance made known to the Ghost City Tours team in which someone on one of our ghost tours happened to be a medium. Throughout the entire night, she had sensed things about various locations before the tour guide even told the story.

The girl, whose name was Lia, was buried on the mansion grounds. Allegedly, this incident led to an investigation of the LaLauries, who were found guilty of illegal cruelty and were forced to forfeit nine slaves. Madame Delphine MacCarthy LaLaurie was a wealthy New Orleans socialite and notorious enslaver.

Of course, they all looked the other way when she purchased them all back. Wikimedia CommonsThe scene at LaLaurie mansion was so horrifying that a mob soon chased after Madame LaLaurie and drove her straight out of town. Though New Orleans had laws (unlike most of the southern states) that “protected” slaves from unusually cruel punishments, the conditions at the LaLaurie mansion were far from adequate.

By 1815 they had five children, the eldest being the daughter from Delphine's first husband. The family would split their time between the townhome and their plantation. Delphine and Blanque had secured a privileged life for themselves. Records show that quite a few of the Macarty men had relationships with free women of color or women of mixed race. Delphine's uncle, Eugene, had a fifty-four-year relationship with a woman of color, Eulalie Mandeville de Marigny (yep, the same name as the Count).

Her infamous and majestic home on Royal Street has been the center of French Quarter attention for over two centuries. The typical ghost story talks about her abusing her slaves, and the atrocious conditions they were found in during the famous fire. The Prefecture of the Department of the Seine reports she expired at "her domicile" but does not specify the cause of death.

With shopping, breweries and eateries galore, you can spend the whole day hanging in the heart of South End and nearby Dilworth. Don’t miss the public art on display at the station and along the Rail Trail. The southernmost stop in Uptown, it’s just a short walk to multiple museums and Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL Carolina Panthers and MLS Charlotte FC. If you're coming from the south, you’ll ride the light rail through the Charlotte Convention Center. The LYNX Blue Line is one of the only light rail systems in the country that cuts through a building. Hop off and head to your next destination, such as museums, parks, restaurants and more all within walking distance.

This Uptown station is the most northern stop before the train crosses I-277 from NoDa. Situated near First Ward Park and UNC Charlotte Center City, this station provides access to several restaurants, along with arts and culture attractions, in the First and Fourth Wards. Parkwood Station provides access to the quickly developing Optimist Park neighborhood between Uptown and NoDa. Start your experience at Optimist Hall, the largest food hall in the city, then explore surrounding eateries, bars and parks while enjoying a skyline view. Start or end your light rail excursion at the JW Clay Station, which has a parking deck with 800 spaces. Take the pedestrian bridge to cross over to North Tryon Street toward the UNC Charlotte campus.

The stop is right along the Rail Trail, a pedestrian-friendly walkway that runs parallel to the rail line. While not on NoDa’s main strip, the 25th Street Station provides access to much of Charlotte’s up-and-coming Mill District. House of Lasagna: our favorite restaurant for satisfyingly delicious baked pasta Dad On The Move

The handmade dish (the pasta for the lasagna is actually made in Bologna, Italy and flown over) comes with green pasta is certainly one of the heavier options, layered will all sorts of meaty goodness. There may be no more iconic lasagna in all of Los Angeles than Angelini Osteria’s lasagna verde omaggio nonna Elvira. Housemade spinach pasta is layered with beef and veal ragu, béchamel, and parmigiana reggiano. The omission of ricotta keeps the dish surprisingly light, while the signature topping of fried spinach leaves adds a level of textural interplay that all other lasagnas should aspire to attain.

Here, the ruined arcades of six of the 11 aqueducts that once supplied the Eternal City with an astonishing volume of water — by some counts double the per capita water allotment of a typical 21st-century American city — have been preserved. There are 14 members of the Kosher Caucus, the representatives who identify as members of the Jewish community – either born Jewish or married into Jewish families. They will work with their non-Jewish colleagues to vote on more than 1,500 amendments to the budget this week. So instead of the usual lasagna or Chinese food, dinner on Thursday was prepared by The Butcherie, a kosher grocery and caterer in Brookline, the area’s historic Jewish neighborhood.

She said that in more than a quarter century serving in the legislature, she did not recall any time when the budget debate overlapped with the first days of Passover, which fell unusually late this year. There are a few things that you can do to make sure that yours turns out perfectly every time. It is the antithesis of the Garfield lasagna, a progression of bechamel, beef Bolognese, Parmesan cheese and fresh sheets of pasta. Most of the height of the five to seven layers is lost in the oven and the slice appears slack and slumped on the plate. It’s a deluge of sauce and filling, with creamy bechamel and Bolognese melding into a lush symbiosis with the delicate pasta. It spills out the sides in inviting globs you can swipe at before you dig into the middle.

The ingredient list is filled with most of the same ingredients that you would use to make a classic lasagna. They’re all very simple and many are staples that you likely have in your kitchen. My family LOVES lasagna and it’s fun to experiment with different variations like Pepperoni Pizza Lasagna Rolls, Easy Vegetables and Kale Lasagna Roll-ups or this Lasagna Soup. House of Lasagna offers delicious pastas and rice meals but what we love most is, of course, their cheesy baked lasagna. One of Hollywood’s most legendary restaurants has been serving its popular lasagna for decades. Although the dish may seem rather pricey, like most of the dishes at the iconic eatery, the hefty helping is more than enough to share.

Marko Purišić (born 5 July 1995), known professionally as Baby Lasagna, is a Croatian singer-songwriter and music producer. He is set to represent Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Rim Tim Tagi Dim". A spokesperson for Mariano told JTA that it was important for Jewish House members and staff to fully participate in the budget hearings, despite it falling during Passover, because of the current climate. That’s because the first Monday after Patriots’ Day this year was April 22, which coincided with the first night of Passover, when Jews around the world gather for the Passover seder.

BOSTON (JTA) – In all other years, the Massachusetts House of Representatives begins its annual budget debate on the Monday after Patriots’ Day, the state holiday that commemorates the first battles of the Revolutionary War. It’s where the noodles crisp and curl up and the sauce caramelizes and thickens. The stone arches looped solemnly over their shadows, some teetering above the grass, some sinking into it. It was a dazzling January morning, and I was standing in the Park of the Aqueducts, about 20 minutes by metro from central Rome.

At Ceci’s Gastronomia in Silver Lake, the lasagna are assembled in individual foil containers so that every slice comes with crispy corners. This mid-range pasta bar is a haven for wine lovers and Downtowners wanting a casual meal that won’t break the bank. The lasagna di carne sticks to the ribs with its hearty meat ragout and plenty of cheese.

The layers are painted with the paste rather than sauced, adding just enough to envelop the pasta without being overwhelming. The ragu has a distinct caramelized sweetness from the carrots and onion with a long-developed beef flavor. Francesco sears the meat until it’s crispy for the sauce, which cooks anywhere from 5 to 6 and a half hours. It tastes of long-simmered carrots and tomato that simply melted into the meat. The top layer is bechamel that turned browned and bubbly in the oven, just as rich as (if not superior to) a blanket of melted cheese. Sinatra would nod, then politely suggest the lasagna anyway.

Viale dei Romani is the Italian talk of the town in West Hollywood. The buzzy Casey Lane spot has lots to enjoy on the menu, but perhaps nothing is as prominent in diners minds than the insanely-layered lasagna.

There are plenty of places offering the Americanized, cheese-heavy lasagna that I like to call Garfield-style. Sunday Gravy in Inglewood serves one of the better versions. But there are a number of chefs making recipes from their Italian hometowns, made with fresh pasta and without any shredded mozzarella. I credit Gino Angelini and his lasagna verde for introducing many diners to the pasta-ragu-bechamel lasagna at Angelini Osteria more than 20 years ago. Named after his nonna Elvira, he layers sheets of green spinach pasta with bechamel and a beef, veal and truffle ragu. At Ceci’s, you can have four corners of either lasagna al ragu or lasagna al pesto, each style representing where the Lucatortos’ families are from in Italy.

The pesto lasagna is something Francesco says is exclusively found in Liguria. “It’s rarely served in any other region and the flavor profile is of the people who live there,” he said. Pasta Sisters sells trays of the lasagna year-round, and for the holidays, there are seasonal flavors such as pumpkin and also mushroom. It’s deeply satisfying, and it got me thinking about lasagna in Los Angeles. El Segundo is buzzing about Jame Enoteca, the corner strip mall pasta spot that’s dedicated to making things by hand. The rustic touch works well for rotating lasagnas like their occasional mushroom option that’s served in a skillet. The sauce is a vibrant forest green and tastes of basil picked fresh from a garden, enriched with purple garlic, Parmigiano, Pecorino Romano and buttery pine nuts.

The lasagna, made using his grandmother’s recipe, is one of the best-selling dishes on the menu. And Sinatra, who grew up eating the lasagna every two to three weeks in Padua, a city just 20 minutes outside of Venice, was the perfect person to convince diners to give it a try. Hailed by Pliny the Elder as “the most famous of all waters in the world for coldness and wholesomeness,” the Marcia was also the longest of the capital’s ancient aqueducts, running some 56.8 miles from source to city.

The dishes evokes images of families gathered around the table, sharing a steaming pan of gut-busting deliciousness. Here now, 12 of LA’s best lasagnas, presented north to south. It’s in the vein of the 9 x 13 pans my mother used to make, heavily sauced noodles with curly edges, a filling of ricotta cheese and plenty of melted mozzarella on top.

What is Sheet Pan Lasagna?

While La Pergoletta may be primarily known for its customizable pasta menu, don’t overlook the lasagna that comes in bolognese and cream of mushroom varieties, especially now that they have two locations in Los Feliz and Silver Lake, respectively. If you want to feel like you’re eating at Grandma’s house for the holidays, Ceci’s Gastronomia is also selling trays of lasagna. I had always assumed that Rome’s aqueducts were a kind of aerial plumbing, their water channeled atop arches. But the Marcia, like all classical aqueducts, ran largely underground. The water moved by the force of gravity, and arches and bridges, which were expensive and vulnerable to attack, were only used to span ravines, valleys and other dips in the terrain that would have interrupted the flow.

Both chefs were born and raised in the northwest region of Liguria, though the ragu is inspired by Francesco’s family in Emilia Romagna. Both sauces are layered with fresh pasta, bechamel, Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano. The week of the budget debate is the only time during the legislative cycle that dinner is provided for the representatives because they typically work all day and well into the night, Balser said.

From easy-drinking cocktails to those famous rice balls, Antonia Lofaso’s Venice mainstay offers many tasty things within its brick-walled confines. The lasagna is one of them, thanks to layers on layers of Italian sausage, meat sauce, and parmesan. Sugarfish co-founder Lele Massimini reformatted Sugarfish’s affordable model to pasta, with sub $20 prices on all of its dishes.

Speaker Ronald Mariano and Aaron Michlewitz, the Jewish chair of the Ways and Means Committee, didn’t hesitate to adjust the schedule, she told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. It’s hard to imagine a more popular lasagna right now than the one at Nightshade, Mei Lin’s Asian-leaning Arts District restaurant. The layers are filled to with tofu and spices to resemble a mapo tofu in both texture and taste, but eating the thing inside the decadent dining room, formerly a warehouse, is purely unique to Los Angeles. Crossroads Kitchen really can do it all, from seafood-less seafood towers to a spectacular lasagna that comes with almond ricotta and plenty of marinara.

The ingredient list is filled with most of the same ingredients that you would use to make a classic lasagna. They’re all very simple and many are staples that you likely have in your kitchen. BEST Norwegian NCL Cruises to the Mediterranean with Prices 2024 & 2025 on Cruise Critic

norwegian cruise line mediterranean

Very appreciative for the return of lobster and jumbo shrimp along with higher quality cuts of meats to the menu. Norwegian offers many stops on their Mediterranean cruises with plenty of amazing cruise ships to embark on. After exploring each Mediterranean port city, you can unwind on the ship's many lounges, or visit a spa to relax and soak your tired muscles. You can also enjoy the ship's many onboard activities and dance the night away at the disco, then go to sleep and wake up in a new port town to explore all over again. If you want to experience as many places as you can in the least amount of time, a cruise vacation is certainly the way to go. NCL had candy set out, pumpkins carved and it was cute to see groups of passengers dressing up a little here and there.

Destinations & Ports

We booked Ancient Akrotiri and wine tasting. We tendered to the alternative port where the ncl sponsored tour busses load. Filled us with fun and educational facts along the way to the winery. We don’t drink alcohol but appreciated the venue for the peaceful setting and beautiful views. Then onto Akrotiri for the tour which our guide made come alive. He then dropped us off in the center of Thira.

Complimentary Restaurants:

Cruise from Rome, Athens or Barcelona and experience Italy, Croatia and Spain on one of our Grand Mediterranean cruises. I warmed up to our tour guide as the tour progressed. The ferry ride over was a little rough but not too bad. I found it simply amazing that their cisterns from 3rd century BCE still hold water. Also found it fascinating how they kept peace and control for so long. From an educational standpoint a 5 star day.

Mediterranean ship excursions review

We had done versions of this sailing a few times before so I’ll comment/compare independent excursions we have taken in the past to the NCL shore excursions. Some were a bust but most had at least something worthwhile and some of NCL’s excursions were down right excellent. Cruise to the Mediterranean with the flexibility and comfort that Norwegian provides.

Norwegian Star Review [A 10 Day Mediterranean Cruise]

We offer you a variety of excursions to choose from, in every port you'll visit. Pay airfare for one guest, and you'll automatically lock-in roundtrip flights for two. Secure these savings online by choosing your nearest airport in step one of your cruise booking, and enjoy air-to-sea made easy. We'll coordinate your roundtrip flights, and transportation between the airport and cruise port. Your brand-new ship will be awaiting nearby, where you can continue the Greek experience by sitting down for dinner at Palomar, NCL’s first-ever Mediterranean seafood restaurant. Are you still exploring options for a 2024 cruise to the Mediterranean with Norwegian?

We opted to stay on the ship that day and added 2 days in Venice after the cruise was over. While cruising from Barcelona, you won't want to miss the Gothic barrio, Gaudi's picturesque Park Guell and Sagrada Familia cathedral. Barcelona is rich with culture and panoramic views. You can enjoy the sights by hopping on a bus and going into the mountains, where you can find quaint little villages and enjoy tapas and wine in one of their many cafes.

Mediterranean Cruises: Sail to Spain, France & Italy

I would not mind returning someday but would probably avoid the St. Andres Monastery and Robla Winery shore excursion. By the time we embarked on the ship the jet lag was gone and we were able to take full advantage of the ship and tighter schedule of touring. For the prices ncl charges we could do just about any land or sea vacation. I think ncl knows they are pushing the limits on what they charge for their Haven on some of these Europe sailings so in return they try to deliver a product worth the cost.

Quentin Long jumped aboard the inaugural sailing, ... A mesmerising destination bridging Europe and Asia, Istanbul has a history as the capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. This is truly a city full of magnificent monuments where diverse cultures mingle. Cannes is an undeniable French Riviera attraction, especially during the annual Cannes Film Festival. During the festival, you'll find numerous celebrities in town.

To top it off, this crumbling palace is jam packed with tour busses. The lunch was in a cute town and the food was good. After the lunch we got dropped off in Corfu town for a little while and then taken back to the ship. Fun seeing the pretty island but would definitely pass on Cici’s palace in the future. In fact I can’t even tell u who the cruise director was. They had been on all excursions and were great at suggesting or getting us on a waiting list...

We had been to Athens a few times before but had yet to visit the Archeological museum. I actually enjoyed the at our own pace touring and taking in the sights and neighborhoods of the city. The HOHO busses loaded right in port and we were off pretty quickly.

Learn more about nine of the Mediterranean destinations you might visit, accompanied by notable attractions at each stop on your cruise vacation. The ship didn’t have a great space for the auctions, and the art team (while they were mostly lovely people) just seemed like they didn’t know what was going on half the time. Cruise ship art auctions are my favorite onboard activity.

There are so many different shore excursions you can choose from during a cruise. There is some debate about whether or not it’s best to book through the cruise line or to book on your own. Delicious fare, interesting people, and some of the most grand and historic landmarks in the world—welcome to the Mediterranean and Greek Isles with Norwegian Cruise Line.

Having been a few times before we wandered around a little and then made our way back down to the ship with the provided cable car tickets. Just enjoyed being taken around and educated. In years past we have done Oia diy and via the ship and also booked Alex boat tours full day excursion on our own. Of all these “Alex boat tour” was more fun but the Akrotiri tour was more educational. I wouldn’t hesitate to book Alex boat tours again but it was a lot more $ than the ship excursion.

Upon return to Mykonos the town was celebrating Oxi day and getting ready for their parade. I found it strange that we were walking along paths with pottery just sticking out of the ground. You’ll come away with a broad understanding of Istanbul’s rich history and culture. In 2024, Norwegian offers you the opportunity to start your cruise to the Mediterranean adventure from nine distinct ports. Some departure points include stops in regions like the Middle East and Northern Europe, or you can set off on a trans-Atlantic journey.

Explore the beautiful island of Capri or the coastal town of Sorrento. For those who have previously visited Pompeii, consider the ruins of Herculaneum, another well-preserved ancient site. The interesting thing about this cruise was that the first 2 days were in Venice, so the ship stayed in port on Day 2 so guests could explore Venice.

The war also resulted in the USA ceding ownership of the islands Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. Bayside Marketplace, across from the port, is a popular waterfront shopping spot for visitors. Lincoln Road Mall spans 10 blocks of shops— and Miracle Mile is a long string of specialty stores.

The Federal District Judge cited that the cruise lines committed “trafficking acts” by conveying U.S. citizens to Cuba to engage in “prohibited tourism” between the years of 2015 and 2019. It remains to be seen whether that ruling will withstand the anticipated appeals and how it might impact the future of cruising to Cuba by American-owned companies. Yes, the embargo is still in place, but travel to Cuba is allowed for certain types of trips. But even on the trips that are allowed, travelers to Cuba may not use U.S. credit and debit cards during their travels (this was briefly allowed in 2016 and early 2017).

American cruise ships, which began visiting the Caribbean's largest island in 2016, keep adding more and more sailings, as regulations fall away. Cruise lines with a longer-running stake in the Caribbean nation are continuing to develop new and more immersive itineraries in Cuba, due to interest. Beginning with the new Armonia sailings from Miami, Cuba will be open to Americans onboard MSC Cruises, following people-to-people requirements. On MSC Opera the company offers a wide range of shore excursions, including beach days and snorkeling without people-to-people requirements. On June 4, 2019, the US Government announced new regulations (economic sanctions) that ended group travel to Cuba, including via US-homeported cruise liners, effective immediately. The ban relates to "private and corporate aircraft, cruise ships, sailboats, fishing boats, and other similar aircraft and vessels".

Havana port's cruise terminal Siera Maestra Terminal (officially "Terminal de Cruceros Sierra Maestra") is located in the port's Ensenada de Atares harbor area, near Old Havana (Habana Vieja, off Plaza de San Francisco). The Atares harbor, beside the port's cruise terminals, also has facilities (operated by Asticar) for marine shipping and shiprepair services.
